When trying to sell an indie game marketing the game as well as yourself is very important. Since you are either solo or part of a small team, you will not have the necessary funds to have a massive marketing budget. This means you need to display your product in the best light possible. As this will hopefully spread word of mouth during development. 

This can be done by trying to grow a following online. A way of doing this is to consistently blog your development, this will allow users to visit your page, see your progress and understand you more as a person. This allows them to become familiar with how you are.

I feel when marketing my game I should consistently block my process, since I am rather new to creating games and unfamiliar with some development technology sharing my games progress as well as my personal development will give a great impression of me as a developer/creator.
